Foundation Programs

Kinder Kicks

Ages 4-6

The Nexus Pre-Kinder Kicks program focuses on the introduction of the basic Mental, Physical and Technical attributes that Taekwondo provides to children ages of three to four years of age. The initial goal of the class is to introduce these concepts while first building the physical strength, coordination and flexibility needed for more advanced training.

This time in your child’s education and development is critical. The foundation they lay down now can last a life time. Don’t discount the importance of providing this structure at this young age. Some pertinent points at this age:

Three Years Old

  1. Three-year-olds learn primarily through actively participating. While training Taekwondo, they are better able to focus on the task at hand. They are capible of more than given credit for and will even surprise their parents by completing something that is a bit challenging and can think more methodically when performing more complex techniques.
  2. Children this age develop their logical reasoning skills as they play. They can begin to learn a technique an break it down into its elemental parts..
  3. Physically, three-year-olds are less top-heavy than toddlers and move with greater sureness. They have improved their abilities to run, climb and perform other Taekwondo related exercises. They can hold their bodies up and begin to learn pushups and sit ups. Children this age can also begin to decipher their right hand from their left hand.

Program for Children

Beginner – Advanced

Ages 6-12

The children’s classes are geared for the very young taekwondo student and contain a detailed curriculum focused in building a sense of accomplishment and to develop self-confidence.  These skills will help them entering society with a more enthusiastic and self confident approach.

The value of taekwondo training is in the respect and discipline that the students learn though the Nexus philosophy and positive encouragement those students will receive for good behavior. Nexus will provide your child with the tools required to help in grade improvement by giving them the discipline needed to study, complete homework, and organize their time wisely, and leadership skills to help them succeed in life. We teach them to set goals and to take responsibility for their own actions.  Children develop concentration and confidence which helps them in school while Teens experience a sense of pride in themselves to stand up for what is right, even when faced with conflicting moral values, temptations and peer pressure.

I am 46 yrs. old and both my 9 yr. old daughter and I are students. My original intention was to have my daughter join taekwondo for the discipline aspect of the sport. Master Amani convinced me to give taekwondo a try too. I thought, why not? This would be something my daughter and I could do together and benefit from physically at the same time. It’s turned out to be one of the smarter decisions I’ve made. Achieving our next belt rank has given us a goal to strive for. Our fellow classmates were always ready to lend a hand and encourage us in any way possible. There is nothing better than working out in a group atmosphere, especially this group of people. The hard work has paid off for me physically, within the first eight months I had lost 37 pounds. The way I look and feel now is just a bonus on top of the growth of the relationship I have with my daughter.

“Probably one of the biggest reasons that I want to thank you is for your ability to guide young people such as myself on a good moral path. The lessons that you taught us were invaluable in developing character. I remember one of your biggest lessons being on respect. A virtue that many people talk about and quote famous sayings on, but you were the only one that I ever felt really understood the concept of respect. It was not simply opening a door for people, although it is a nice gesture, rather it is the ability to recognize the uniqueness of any individual no matter who they are, and to be able to appreciate what they have to say and their viewpoint. I thank you very much for teaching me respect and that is something that I plan to take with me throughout my life even if I never get the opportunity to visit again, which hopefully will not happen. You are truly a moral guardian of many children’s future and I hope that you never lose what truly makes you unique. Thank you for your support and I will carry your teaching with me forever.”
